Back from Boston and Ready to SING!

9 Jul

Dayna Bloom

We are excited to present the sultry and enchanting voice of Dayna Bloom to our Night of Essence stage. This emerging Toronto artist has gained notoriety for her bold sound and she’s going to show us what she’s all about on Sunday July 15th!

Fun Fact: Dayna was listed as one of “Canada’s Best Kept Secrets” in the Toronto Metro News annual list of rising musicians.

Dayna Bloom’s vocals can fill a room and send a chill down your spine, but her ability to write great songs and deliver them with such power makers her a true start on the rise. Dayna’s educational accolades continue to mount, having completed a music residency at the internationally recognized Banff Centre for the Arts, and is continuing her Bachelors of Music at the world renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts; who’s halls have been graced by alumni such as Quincy Jones, Dianna Krall and John Mayer.

Home from Boston for the summer, Dayna is excited to be a part of the Night of Essence show and wants to thank the organizers for the opportunity!

Back Once Again…Bad Gyal CHAKA!!!

6 Jul

Back for the 2nd Annual Night of Essence Dance and Entertainment Showcase is Chaka aka Ms. Shox and the W.E.B. This firecracker tore up the stage last year closing the show and we are happy to have her back! Read on to find out more about this hot gyal! 🙂

Her music is raw, un-cut, catchy sexy and above all, always real. That can also be said of her attitude. Shox, born Chaka Comrie, is not what you’d expect from a female rapper. This fun-spirited rapper grew up in the Scarborough and took an interest in performing at a very young age. Growing up listening to reggae music her love for dancing developed. Her cute face gives an indication of her lighthearted attitude. “I don’t take myself tooseriously, I like to dance and have fun and that’s what I want people to get from me,” explains the 25 year-old caramel beauty.
Fun Fact #1: Chaka was a part of one of Toronto’s Hottest Dance Crews, RUKUS!

Chaka’s sound is like nothing in Toronto right now. Her music reflects the life that she has lived and the things she has seen; and mimics her life with flashy beats, sexy sounds and original flavor. “I make songs that I like and I just hope others will appreciate them too, I feel that people can benefit from the things I’ve learnt.” Her ultimate goal though is plain and simple: to make good music and to look good doing it. To this Toronto rapper nothing is too much, either you go big or go home. So she plans to go all the way.

Now she has set her plan in motion while kicking down barriers and making her own rules.  With her songs blazing on hip-hop radio programs in Toronto she is on her way. From mix tapes, open mic shows and being featured on many artists tracks such as Mike Gutz; the hype is truly following her like a shadow. Her songs can already be heard around the city, including “I could have your man.” For now though this hip-hop princess is hard at work in the studio getting things together and making as much music as possible.

Jennifer Cortez will be performing at Night of Essence

28 Jun

This young Diva has been doing some great things for herself, and we are glad she’s hitting the stage on July 15th.

Not only will she be performing, she is performing her new song that will get you guys moving.

About Jennifer

Jennifer Cortez comes from a long lineage of musical talent and natural performers, so it was her inevitable destiny to become a performer one day. It all started in Quito, Ecuador, with Jennifer’s grandmother, Fabiola Pinto who was a singer/performer herself active within the music scene who then imprinted her passion for music onto her daughter, Teresa. Jennifer’s Father, Mario Cortez was also musically gifted, playing electric, acoustic and bass guitar in a local band in Quito.

Born in Toronto, Canada Jennifer, inspired by her mother, began her own journey into music. She began singing at a young age, began writing music lyrics at age 16, and continued to grow within her artistry. In 2008, Jennifer released her record “The Latin Anthem” (Himno Latino), which was dedicated specifically for the women of her culture, words of empowerment to remind them to always follow their dreams. This record was embraced by the Hispanic community and added onto radio stations in Toronto, U.S. and South America. A remix was then created featuring Juno nominee, Arabesque adding an urban twist to the record; which then was embraced and played on station New Flow 93.5 in Toronto.
On March 26th, 2010 Jennifer released her debut album “Through the Rain”. “Through the Rain” is a heartfelt, personal album to Jennifer covering the triumphs over adversity in her life. Recognition of her hardwork led to a nomination for a MARTY award, which is an award celebrating the arts and the achievements of artists. Jennifer was nominated May 13, 2011 as an “2011 Emerging Performing Arts Nominee”.
Very proud of her Ecuadorian roots, Jennifer has high ambitions for her future and the future of the female Latin artist. Jennifer holds her head up high hoping to continue to inspire the women of her culture.
