We really can’t get enough of Shannon Boodram. Don’t know what it is, but I adore her..she tells me she loves my dancing and I tell her, I just adore you, I’m a fan..and I’m not going to  hide it.

Smart, funny, outrageous, actually the word is WILD..if you don’t know about Shannon you need to. She and her clever best friend Andrea Lewis created www.ThoseGirlsAreWild.com a really great blog that gives readers everything from entertainment, knowledge, inspiration and a real talk.

Many may know of Shannon’s adventures from her blog, and you may have seen her on TV or jumping up at Caribana, but did you know she is a photographer. You have to visit her photography website and take a look at her work. Love it CLICK HERE

Shannon made us laugh and entertained us last year, so it’s only right that we bring her back.

Last year she got her own private pole dance lesson on stage, she showed us she can dance to dancehall, and she did it all with a straight face lol..

Jennifer Cortez will be performing at Night of Essence

28 Jun

This young Diva has been doing some great things for herself, and we are glad she’s hitting the stage on July 15th.

Not only will she be performing, she is performing her new song that will get you guys moving.

About Jennifer

Jennifer Cortez comes from a long lineage of musical talent and natural performers, so it was her inevitable destiny to become a performer one day. It all started in Quito, Ecuador, with Jennifer’s grandmother, Fabiola Pinto who was a singer/performer herself active within the music scene who then imprinted her passion for music onto her daughter, Teresa. Jennifer’s Father, Mario Cortez was also musically gifted, playing electric, acoustic and bass guitar in a local band in Quito.

Born in Toronto, Canada Jennifer, inspired by her mother, began her own journey into music. She began singing at a young age, began writing music lyrics at age 16, and continued to grow within her artistry. In 2008, Jennifer released her record “The Latin Anthem” (Himno Latino), which was dedicated specifically for the women of her culture, words of empowerment to remind them to always follow their dreams. This record was embraced by the Hispanic community and added onto radio stations in Toronto, U.S. and South America. A remix was then created featuring Juno nominee, Arabesque adding an urban twist to the record; which then was embraced and played on station New Flow 93.5 in Toronto.
On March 26th, 2010 Jennifer released her debut album “Through the Rain”. “Through the Rain” is a heartfelt, personal album to Jennifer covering the triumphs over adversity in her life. Recognition of her hardwork led to a nomination for a MARTY award, which is an award celebrating the arts and the achievements of artists. Jennifer was nominated May 13, 2011 as an “2011 Emerging Performing Arts Nominee”.
Very proud of her Ecuadorian roots, Jennifer has high ambitions for her future and the future of the female Latin artist. Jennifer holds her head up high hoping to continue to inspire the women of her culture.

Why we choose the Great Hall to house the 2nd Annual Night of Essence Showcase

27 Jun

The Great Hall is an awesome event venue located in the art of our city on the trendy and electic Queen Street. I’m amazed that this hidden gem is tucked away and not many know about what is inside. The space was built in 1889, and housed the 1st YMCA in Toronto.

The 1st time I went to The Great Hall, I was in shock, and I was captivated. I was in shock because I have never heard of or seen this place before. And I was captivated because I loved the look and the feel of the venue. It gave me retro, urban and great at the same time. What was also nice was the size of the venue.

The history of the venue is just as great, CLICK HERE to read about the history..I promise you, it’s short and to the point. Who would have known that The Great Hall went through so many transitions.

Well of course I was inspired and I seen how this space could house The 2nd Annual Night of Essence Dance and Entertainment Showcase.

MsToya Robinson and I both used our imagination and creativity to figure out how we can utilize the space, and make it comfortable for our guest and audience to enjoy. We will have the show in the main hall. The main hall is where all the performances will take place. We have the media room. This room will have all the performers information, sponsors and an area designated for you to take pictures.

Art work will be displayed in both rooms.

It’s going to be a great night of entertainment.

We will have dancers, singers, spoken word, an amazing after party, swag bags available to the first 50 people, plus great prizes to be won from our raffles.

Overall the night is going to be HOT…

Come out and enjoy the HOTTEST Dance and Entertainment Show of the summer and it’s taking place in one of Torontos Historic Landmark.

She’s a BOSS, BOSS Dance Company will be performing at Night of Essence

20 Jun

You have to love when ladies stand up and are downright bold..It’s sexy, it’s beautiful and hey when the ladies have talent behind it, it makes the package that much more GREAT.

Leah Totten is the brainchild behind Toronto’s NEW all female dance company..And guess what the company is called.

BOSS Dance Company. Yes that’s right.

When I hear the name I just want to yell it at the top of my lungs..Because I love it.

She’s a BOSS!

Get to know What Boss Dance Company is about

BOSS Dance Company, an all female team under the artistic direction of Leah Totten, is a collective of over 40 girls who represent ambition, strength and drive. In binding this community of women together, Leah wanted to encourage people to be in control of their own lives, follow their dreams, and to essentially “be your own boss”. She has worked worldwide at some of the most prestigious studios, institutions and workshops in the dance industry including Boogiezone University and Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio. Her dance travels have taken her places such as: Rhode Island, Vancouver, California, New York City, London, Ireland, Poland, Scotland, Romania, Hungary and many more. However, BOSS Dance Company is more than a crew or a vision… It is about so much more than just steps or choreography. This group of girls has quickly grown to be a family environment of support, encouragement, and a platform for growth. We hope to share our passion and strength with you through our artistry and power.
